The March 2010 exam will include questions covering current 2010 tax law, including the estate tax and Roth IRA conversion changes that were passed in 2001 and 2006, respectively, and took effect in January 2010. NEW BOOK PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE HISTORY
OF THE FINANCIAL PLANNING PROFESSION:
          CFP Board is pleased to share that E. Denby Brandon Jr., CFP® and H. Oliver Welch, CFP®, CFA – two early leaders of CFP Board – have published a comprehensive history of the financial planning profession. Their new book, The History of Financial Planning, chronicles the history and evolution of the profession, with insights from many of the key players who conceived of and established the financial planning movement and CFP® certification. PROPOSED FINANCIAL PLAN DEVELOPMENT COURSE REQUIREMENT:On August 3, 2009, CFP Board issued a request for comments on the proposed addition of a financial plan development course requirement to CFP Board's education standards. Comments received during the 60-day comment period, which ended October 2, 2009, will be reviewed and considered by CFP Board and have been posted to CFP Board's Web site. Read more >

Ethical Standards and Resources:

On May 31, 2007, CFP Board announced the adoption of an updated Standards of Professional Conduct, which sets forth the ethical standards for CFP® professionals. The updated Standards, which have an effective date of July 1, 2008 and an enforcement date of January 1, 2009, were designed to maintain CFP Board's high ethical standards, strengthen them in several important ways, and present the standards in a manner that will be easily understood by CFP® professionals and the public they serve. Survey of Washington D.C. Residents Showed 83% of Respondents Were in Favor of Establishing Standards for Financial Planning
WASHINGTON, DC, February 16, 2010 – The Financial Planning Coalition, a group of three leading organizations representing 75,000 financial planning professionals who serve millions of consumers, today sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs announcing results of new poll indicating overwhelming public support for higher standards for financial planning.
