CFP® EXAM UPDATE:
The March 2010 exam will include questions covering current 2010 tax law, including the estate tax and Roth IRA conversion changes that were passed in 2001 and 2006, respectively, and took effect in January 2010. Tax tables for the March 2010 exam have been updated and are available for download. Learn more >

PROPOSED FINANCIAL PLAN DEVELOPMENT COURSE REQUIREMENT:On August 3, 2009, CFP Board issued a request for comments on the proposed addition of a financial plan development course requirement to CFP Board's education standards. Comments received during the 60-day comment period, which ended October 2, 2009, will be reviewed and considered by CFP Board and have been posted to CFP Board's Web site. Read more >

CFP BOARD PROPOSES ESTABLISHING INDUSTRY STANDARDS FOR TARGET DATE FUNDS:
Marilyn Capelli Dimitroff, CFP®, 2009 Chair of CFP Board's Board of Directors, outlined CFP Board’s proposals to enhance consumer safeguards for investors who use target date funds, in testimony before a joint Securities and Exchange Commission-Department of Labor hearing.

Ethical Standards and Resources:
On May 31, 2007, CFP Board announced the adoption of an updated Standards of Professional Conduct, which sets forth the ethical standards for CFP® professionals. The updated Standards, which have an effective date of July 1, 2008 and an enforcement date of January 1, 2009, were designed to maintain CFP Board's high ethical standards, strengthen them in several important ways, and present the standards in a manner that will be easily understood by CFP® professionals and the public they serve. WASHINGTON, DC, February 16, 2010 – The Financial Planning Coalition, a group of three leading organizations representing 75,000 financial planning professionals who serve millions of consumers, today sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs announcing results of new poll indicating overwhelming public support for higher standards for financial planning. The Coalition continued to urge the Committee to include regulation of financial planners as part of the Financial Regulatory Bill currently under consideration by Congress.
